![]() Newer versions only offer one ratio and its much faster. A 6613 has similar low ratios to the 15spd. Your 1st gear in your 13 is lower than your deep reduction 1st gear in your 15? If a guy did not need OD, I think the non-OD 15 has a lower 1st than the 13 OD. Comparing specs, if a person wanted an overdrive transmission, the 13 over still had a lower 1st than the 15 over according to our Roadranger spec brochure, and the only 15 on the place came home recently in a 1991 Marmon, its the OD one with the turned around 4th and 5th, and I personally like a good 13 compared to it, seemed to have a lower 1st than the 15th. Borrowed neighbors tandem with 15 over this spring, it was like meeting an old friend I hadn't seen in years. If I could get a big torque rto 15, it would be behind that Cat in a heartbeat. Every once in a while I find myself still trying to stuff it in top gear at the dash. Full shifts, split on top hole to the big sprocket. Moved to newer truck with an 18 speed- 15 yrs ago. My 13 most times gets going OK, only occasionally have to reverse a foot or two to get a bit of 'easy' going. from deep 5th to low 4th.įorgot to include that in the mix also was a load for a neighbour to help him out - and his was an 18! ![]() Simple thing to remember with a 15 is to downshift one gear whenever coming out of deep reduction if you are going for the next progressive gear. 18s have nearly the same low gear ratio as a 15ODs low-low (both high 14s,13spd is in the 12s ). I love the 15,an 18 can replace it but a 13 cannot due to its fast low gear ratio. Yes the ratios are different and the OD is a touch slower than a 13/18 (0.79 vs 0.74 IIRC ). And possibly the overdrive ratio is different in a 15? IIRC, the gear ratio's are closer together in the non-reduction gears of a 15 than they are in a 13 when not splitting. But, IIRC, there are 2 gears in the deep reduction that are slower than first gear. I make it a point to either park only on dry, firm topsoil, or good solid field lanes.īeen awhile since I've run a 15 speed. A 15 speed is basically a 10 speed with a deep reduction, which is excellent for getting out of soft fields, but not as nice on the open road.ĭepends what you're doing. I like being able to split those top gears. Personally, I'll take a 13 or 18 speed as long as I'm not pulling heavy out of soft fields. You get to shift straight through 12 nicely spaced gears. You can go 1-2-3-4-5- (air shift )-4-5 or 1-2- (air shift )-1-2-3-4-5 or any combination between.ġ5 speed is my #1 choice for transmission. Yes, when shifting a 15 out of deep reduction move the lever one hole back from wherever you are. Shift 1-2-3-4-5 - now what is the next gear in the bottom ten of the rest? Ĥ00 hp Cummins quite happy to shift a full load on hard surface in 1st gear of normal range. Different! ĭeep reduction to get moving loaded in 'dead' paddocks. ![]() Went and helped son in law for a day - driving his Ford LTL9000 - 15 speed. Retired, but carting grain with my old "S" line inter - 13 speed R/R. ![]() Posted 16:47 (#5724203) Subject: Road Ranger 15 sp shifting Road Ranger 15 sp shifting Jump to page : 1 Now viewing page 1 ![]()
